Look Glam On A Uni Student Budget: Get A Fresh Trim & A Bouncy Blowdry For Less

One of the quickest ways to feel fresh is to sport a brand new hair do.

We’ve all heard the saying – a change is as good as a holiday, but with the everyday price of living rising, and if you’re a student – well it can be very tough, the idea of heading to the salon for an expensive snip and blowdry is as ridiculous as the thought of popping down to your local bar for a flute of Dom Pérignon.

Never fear beauty-obsessed-gals-on-a-budget, I know just the place that can transform your hair without putting a dint in your wallet: the Australasian College Broadway.

Student’s at the college, who are trained by some of the industries most trusted and well known beauty experts, will fix your mane and have you leaving the salon swooshing your hair just like K-Middy (she’s my hairspo).

I headed to the college to have my hair washed, trimmed and blow-dried to give you the heads up on my experience – I take my job of being a beauty guinea pig very seriously.

Before I share the entire process, here’s how my hair looked before my visit to the Australasian College Broadway (I simply straightened it with my GHD and did some little flicks at the ends. A pretty standard Sarah-do):

When I sat down at the college I spoke to my hairdresser-in-training and said I didn’t want to lose too much of my length (what girl does?) and that I’d love a quick hair treatment as well to seal in moisture and restore some damage from my excessive styling. I tend to straighten my hair every second day so it’s so important that I give my hair regular TLC.

We hopped on over to the hair washing basins and I was treated to a lovely shampoo (the massage was delightful!). My hairdresser used De Lorenzo Et (Et standing for Essential Treatments) Absolute Deep Cleanser (it smells super pretty), an organic purifying shampoo with rosehip oil and oat peptides.

After my wash, massage and rinse she placed in De Lorenzo’s Et Equilibrium Masque which sat in my hair for 5 minutes. This hair treatment restores dry and damaged hair giving it a beautiful shine thanks to plant and flower extracts.

Once my hardworking hair treatment was washed out, it was back to the hair-snipping hot seat and off with my dead ends.

I like long layers so I had those cut-back in perfectly around my face before De Lorenzo Weightless Hydrating Revitalising Foam and Extinguish Thermal Spray with Argon Oil was combed through my lengths to protect as well as offer extra volume.

My hair was then blow-dried, coiled and set in place with metal clips and sprayed with De Lorenzo’s Elements Granite Strong Hold Hair Lacquer. If you want a truly bouncy blowdry like K-Middy, this last step can’t be skipped.

Once my hair had properly set and each clip was removed, my hair stylist brushed out my curls with a large panelled brush and she spritzed De Lorenzo’s Elements Afterglow Anti-Humidity Shine Spray through my lengths so that not one frizzy fly-away would appear and my locks would shine with health.

After reading this luxe, detailed account of my hair clean, trim and styling session, you’d probably think this cost me upwards of at least $200 right?

Wrong.

For my long hair to be washed, massaged, treated, cut and blow-dried it only cost me $10. You read right – $10! Can you believe it?! And they did an amazing job!

Seriously I’ve had shocking haircuts at some of Sydney’s more ritzy salons and this session was far more satisfying. Look how bouncy and healthy my hair is!

If you’d like to book yourself in for a session with the extremely friendly students and staff at the Australasian College Broadway simply call (02) 8587 8888 for a time slot and book in STAT!

You can also enquire about having your hair coloured as well – there really is nothing they can’t do.

What do you think of my bouncy blowdry? When was the last time you had your hair cut?
