Model Gigi Hadid is the new face of Maybelline, here’s how to achieve her signature makeup
Gigi Hadid will be one of the biggest names in 2015 – mark my words.
The 19-year-old blonde damsel, best known for being the daughter of Yolanda Foster from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, becoming the face of GUESS in 2012 and landing the front cover on Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book in 2014, is set for even bigger things in 2015.
Not only will she continue to show off her killer street and red carpet style next to her BFF Kendall Jenner, but she’ll be appearing in the 2015 Pirelli calendar – a modelling gig many young cover girls dream of, but sadly never land.
Because you’ll start seeing this face SO MUCH, I’ve decided to detail exactly how to get the Palestinian/Dutch models signature makeup look.
It’s very sun-kissed and natural looking so it will be a big hit with the boys who are suckers for the ‘no-makeup makeup look’.
With clean, just washed skin, prime your naked skin. I’m loving Eve Lom’s Flawless Radiance Primer. I particularly like this product because it glides on effortlessly, hydrates my skin, but also creates a barrier for my foundation to not penetrate though – a task other primers in the past have’t excelled at, $79
After applying your primer, take Maybelline’s Dream Wonder Foundation, $21.95. This super light formula hits shelves in Australia on the 1st of February, so you don’t have long to hold out beauty cadets!
This foundation can mask any small blemishes while leaving your skin lightly covered and able to breath. I also love that the formula contains SPF2o, so if you’re a beachy kind of girl like Gigi you won’t have to stress too much over sun damage (although topping up your sun protection throughout the day is always a must – especially in Australia with so many pesky holes in our O zone layer! Drats!)
With warm hands, or a large kabuki brush, blend into the planes of your face and down your neck until seamless.
With a large clean feathery brush, take a small amount of NARS Laguna Bronzer. Swirl the pigment around your upper hair liner and dust over the ridge of your nose and cheeks. With another brush, dip into NARS Orgasm Blush. Swirl this shade very gently onto your upper cheeks – you don’t want to appear to be wearing too much rouge as Gigi keeps her blush very minimal.
*A smart gal would buy NARS Laguna and Orgasm Duo Compact and get both of the above legendary shades for only $56. Bargain!
Gigi loves to decorate her almost khaki green eyes with gold and peachy tones. To get her look take Benefit’s Big Beautiful Eyes Kit – it has all of the shades you will need to widen and open up your peepers, $32. With the bronzy ‘all over base’ shade, cover your entire eyelid and feather the shade out near your eyebrow bone.
Next, take the bronzy medium brown shade and run it across your entire crease. Now, with the pearlescent pink tone, concentrate it on the middle of your eyelid and sweep it under your bottom lash line.
Finally, with the dark chocolate colour, take a small eye makeup brush and roughly line your upper lash line before blending it out with a soft fluffy brush. No need for a cat eye flick here – Gigi’s all about putting forward a natural beachy bronzed face.
In this particular Gigi Hadid look (shown above) you can add the addition of a small smidgen of gold eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes to really open them up. I love Stila’s Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadow in Comex Gold, $44.
For large lashes that don’t come from a packet, I seriously suggest YSL’s Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils – (Luxurious Mascara For A False Lash Effect) $55. Two coats of this bad boy and your eyes will be beautifully framed like Gigi’s.
Gigi likes to coat both of her top and bottom lashes.
Gigi tends to leave her eyebrows quite natural and sparse – she doesn’t fill them in or exaggerate them to mimic Cara Delevingne.
To make sure your brows stay in place all night, however, I suggest swiping a coat of clear eyebrow gel and pushing your hair follicles upwards and out. Try Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara in Clear for $5. It’s a steal.
Lastly, Gigi Hadid loves ‘just bitten’ lips. She doesn’t wear too much gloss or lipstick ever. To recreate her rosy tinted lips, I recommend Becca’s Beach Tint in Bright Coral Pink. This product can be blended on both the cheeks and lips, but for this look stick to just apply the colour to your pout using a small amount to add a natural hue to your lips, $42.
