Natural Beauty: A DIY Face Mask To Calm Sore Itchy Eczema Skin Using Oatmeal And Other Ingredients Found In Your Fridge
Hands up if you suffer from eczema or any other irritating itchy skin problems?
Over the last week (during Sydney’s heat-wave) my neck has broken out with eczema, which is pretty common for me with the changing of seasons.
Basically my neck looks like a scaly lizard and is itchy like nothing else! I’ve been pretty good this time and haven’t scratched any of the inflamed areas. I’ve also been making sure to eliminate any of the causes (hot showers, perfumed products, wool and stress) although I think this outbreak if from the sudden dry heat in Sydney.
To help calm my neck I’ve found this recipe for a face mask (or body mask in my case!) that uses oatmeal to calm down skin inflammation. Oatmeal is often used in eczema skincare products because it helps to stabilise skin’s high pH levels when we are having an outbreak. How very scientific!
This face/body mask can also be enjoyed by those who don’t have eczema but need to sooth sore skin fast. Maybe you’ve been hitting the beach too much and are a little red, or perhaps you’ve applied a face cream that doesn’t agree with your skin? This DIY all-natural face mask will do the trick to calm and refresh your skin.
1/2 cup hot water
1/3 cup oatmeal
2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt
2 tablespoon Manuka honey
1 small free-range egg white
- Mix the oatmeal and hot water together in a small bowl, then let sit for two minutes (the oats can will soak up some of the liquid to become more soft.)
- Mix in the rest of the ingredients including the Greek yogurt, Manuka honey and egg white, combining well.
- Apply a thin layer to face. Wash off after 15 minutes and relish how calm your face feels.
