The four facial exfoliating products that banish dry skin and blemishes in time for Summer
With summer officially here (who else was cheering when the 1st of December rolled around?) it’s time to make sure your skin is in check and glowing with health and the love that comes from vitamin D.
Thinking ahead, I changed up my whole skincare routine during spring to make sure my face was buffed to perfection come summer.
Here are the four most kick-ass facial exfoliators that really work, in my humble opinion.
All four are slightly different to each other, so when I’m in the shower I can tailor how much grit I want from my exfoliator depending on the kind of day I’ve had and how oily or congested my dermy (affectionate name I’ve given to my skin) feels.
I’ve also included a cleansing oil in this post down the bottom, because I want you guys to know that when you do slough away dead skin cells and imperfections, it is SO SO important to top your skin back up with essential oils, and this one suds and refreshes beautifully (more on that further down).

Trilogy Gentle Facial Exfoliant
This exfoliator can only be described as a thick and creamy exfoliating concrete – seriously.
But, instead of being filled with sand and gravel (useless and way too harsh for our skin) the brilliant minds at Trilogy have come up with such a pleasant mix to smear across the planes of our faces enriched with active honey enzymes, camellia oil, evening primrose oil, sweet almond and calendula oil as well as jojoba crushed seeds – whoa that’s some pretty powerful ingredients.
While I’m in the shower I like to take a small glob and use the heal of my palm to really push the product into my skin to allow the jojoba crushed seeds to completely brush away any dry skin.
I find with this cleanser you really do need to follow up with a gel cleanser afterwards to wash off any oily residue from the powerful natural oils that are in this mix.

BioElixia Crystal Derm Exfoliator
This exfoliator really really surprised me. I was casually looking through some of my products in my beauty cupboard when I came across this product.
Intrigued, I placed it in the shower to use that night, and wow, I’m so glad I did.
This exfoliator looks like icing sugar when squeezed out, but upon buffing it into my skin, I could really feel the micro exfoliating granules cleaning out all of my pores because they were small enough to get it and get the job done.
I loved how instantly clean and polished my face felt and looked after emerging from the shower. It was as if I had my whole face blurred with a filter on Instagram making me look like I didn’t have any fine lines and my blemishes were totally cleaned out.
The micro crystals in this cleanser are aided with hyadisine (a marine biotechnology alternative to hyaluronic Acid) and Aloe Vera.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
I used this exfoliator all over Europe (in July/August) and now back at home.
By sprinkling the smallest amount of powder onto the palm of my hand, and pushing the product into my cheeks, forehead and skin, the water quickly turns the powder into a gentle polishing exfoliator.
This exfoliator isn’t big on grit, in fact you almost can’t feel any granules at all, instead the key ingredients that help to remove dead skin cells are Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes.
This is a very modern approach to exfoliating that doesn’t use large particles to rip away dead skin cells – it uses highly efficient acids that are more commonly found in salons instead.
Zk’in Certified Organic Clarifying Exfoliator
Coffee scrubs have really boomed in the beauty space during 2014. Seriously, I think more people are applying coffee to their skin than drinking it these days. Talk about creating a buzz – pun intended.
This certified organic coffee clarifying scrub is as fresh as they come, with the brand only recently launching and with the coffee granules coming from High Trees Estate Coffee in Northern New South Wales.
So, essentially this face scrub isn’t just organic, but it’s helping the local economy too, which I love.
Moving along, I use this coffee scrub on my face twice a week and find that it’s fantastic after a particularly tough day to reinvigorate me.
The only downside you may experience with this coffee scrub is the smell – but really it’s a given – you will smell like coffee afterwards.
PLUS – Jurlique Nourishing Cleansing Oil
While exfoliating is hugely important when it comes to having glowy skin this summer, making sure you’re feeding your skin with precious oils is too, otherwise you will actually dry up from sloughing away at your skin and not look glowy at all.
I’ve been loving Jurlique’s Purely Age Defying Nourishing Cleansing Oil.
I’ve been using Japanese DHC cleaning oils for years, but this variant features a more light weight oil with strong anti ageing and hydrating ingredients with safflower, sunflower and seseme oil as well as liquorice root extract where the true anti ageing benefits come from.
Liqorice root contains glycyrrhetinic acid, a potent antioxidant that is also a strong anti-inflammatory and soothing anti-irritant.
I pump two squirts of this into the palms of my hands and once buffed into my face with water it turns into a milky consistency.
I then follow up with my exfoliator of choice on the day.
