The very best face mists, how to use them properly and where to store them

Sarah-What-Face-Mist-Review

Face mist could possibly be my all time favourite skincare product.

Simply spritzing my face with a hydrating mist throughout the day makes a HUGE difference to the overall look and glow of my skin.

Chatting happily away to my pals about face mists recently I realised how many still aren’t taking full advantage of this fantastic product and don’t know how to use it, or even where to store it.

To set the record straight on face mists I’ve picked out a few of my faves (below) and I’ve dished all the deets on how to use them properly.

Face mist is really one of life’s little pleasures, so why not indulge and make the most of them?

Why you should use face mist

Face mist is used for a multitude of reasons, but most commonly to hydrate the skin before makeup application then set makeup once applied.

It’s also frequently used to refresh the skin during exercise or on blisteringly hot days.

I personally take it on flights to keep my skin in tip-top hydrated form (everyone hates air conditioners that suck the life out of your skin) and to quench my skin after a shower when I’ve stripped back all of the oils from my face after cleansing.

I also love how it adds a dewy finish to my makeup.

Makeup artists are known to spritz models skin backstage at fashion week before they take to the runway. (Pst – Uriage Thermal Water Spray shown below is one of their personal go-tos).

How you should use face mist

Store-Makeup-In-The-Fridge

All face mist should be sprayed at least 20cm’s away from the skin. In doing so, a fine mist will cloak your skin helping to refresh instead of being too close and powerful and ruining your makeup.

How to store face mist

This is a personal choice, but I can’t think of any better way then storing it in the fridge. Nothing feels as magical as spraying icy cool face mist after a hot day. Refrigerating most of your skincare and beauty products stops them from spoiling and expiring too fast as well.

Antipodes Resurrect Clarifying Facial Toner Mist

antipodes-resurrect-clarifying-facial-toner-500x500

This face mist / toner lives permanently in my gym bag and hand bag – I simply love it that much.

It has the most gorgeous feminine / fern (well what I imagine a rainforest to smell like) scent.

The real key ingredients in this soothing and relaxing face mist are lavender, sage and chamomile – all known to reduce pore size and calm the mind too! $36

Uriage Eau Thermale D’uriage Thermal Water Spray

Uriage Eau Thermale D'uriage Thermal Water Spray

This is my beach bag and in-flight face mist.

Uriage – a French skincare brand – have mastered the face mist to a tee. The thermal water sourced from the French Alps is all-natural and bacteriologically pure, basically meaning you can spray this on your face as much as you like.

I love that the can releases the spray in a fine soothing mist, so that even after applying makeup, it will simply add a dewy glow and won’t cause any running. $18.99 (150ml*)

*Different can sizes available.

L’occitane Verbena Fresh Summer Mist

L'occitane Verbana Fresh Summer Mist

I remember the first time I smelt this spray. I was having my hair fashioned into a Marion Cotilard coiled updo and my hair stylist spritzed this all over his face (it was a hot day!) – and the scent of citrusy verbena filled the room instantly.

This delightful spray acts just as much as a fragrance as it does a hydrating face mist. Laced with natural mint extract and organic verbena from Provence, this is one refreshing face mist! $22
