FASHION WEEK FOR DUMMIES: MERCEDES BENZ NYFW S/S 2015 – DAY 3
Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week (NYFW) need not be so hard to navigate for the mere mortal. Why should only the fashion posse have a heads up on what we’ll be wearing come spring/summer next year?
To save any awkward moments when you’re chatting with that ‘fash-forward’ girlfriend of yours, I’ve decided to dilute NYFW and summarise what shows you need to know about and what trends actually matter.

Here’s Day 3.
Alexander Wang did it again with a collection filled to the brim with cutting edge designs. No one else innovates like the playful designer – no one. Putting a fresh spin on the crop top trend that’s seen everyone bare their mid-drift, Alexander Wang has lengthened the crop making it sit lower down to the abdomen. Crisp tailored pants and expertly pleated chiffon skirts also made a come back.
Trend: Take a style cue from your grandparents and iron your pants so that a crease is evident down the centre of the legs. Buy delicate pleated mini skirts and pair it back with all black turtle neck tops.
Prabal injects summer with a lavish edge thanks to an explosion of rich colour, flirty feathers and super soft fabrics. Putting a contemporary edge on luxe evening wear, the designer incorporated racer front crop tops and snap-front belts.
Trend: Buy plastic clasp belt’s and cinch a whimsical skirt at the waist. Presto!
Altuzarra was clearly all about showing off a little bit of skin this summer. Skirts featured mid-thigh centre splits (be careful of this trend ladies!) and relaxed V-neck shirts made from breathable cotton dipped down to the navel. This new trend gives you the perfect chance to show off those pretty (rather expensive) bralettes.
Trend: Pair a brightly coloured pencil skirt with a crisp white shirt and undo the buttons all the way down to were the waistband of the skirt hugs. Wear a cute bralette and you’re good to head out to your nearby beach bar.
