A Sydney Beauty Blogger’s Little Black Beauty Book

Little Black BookWe’ve all had this moment. You spot a ridiculously gorgeous woman strutting down the street with immaculately blow-dried hair and a flawless bronzed spray tan.

You wonder if you should run up and ask her to jot down her regular beauty hangouts, but then again, that could be kind of weird…

Ideally she’d drop her Little Black Book filled with all of the best Sydney salons on the side walk for you. You’d instantly have the inside scoop on where to go for event makeup, know who does the best waxes, where to get your Monday mani and which hair colourist will give you celeb-worthy tresses.

Well listen up beauty babes! I’ve decided to drop my LBB for you – but on the interwebz.

Because I’m a Sydney beauty blogger I regularly go to the newest and often the best salons as part of my job. Believe me, I find out pretty quickly which ones are worth spending your big beauty bucks on.

Scroll below to find out more about my favourite beauty destinations that I personally love and recommend.

Edwards and Co. Hair Salon

Edwards and Co. Hair Salon

Address: 1/99-103 Kippax St, Surry Hills

Number: (02) 9211 6631

Why You Should Book In: Jaye Edward is known as the King Of Balayage in Sydney for good reason – but he’s also amazing at cutting in some ultra flattering layers around your face as well. If you can’t book in with Jaye himself, it’s good to know that the whole team at Edwards and Co. is remarkable and know how to give a killer dye job. The salon interiors are also exquisite and will put you in a state of zen for the rest of your day.

I interviewed the lovely Jaye a couple of years ago for Primped. Read his amazing advice on finding the right haircut for your face shape before you book in.

Mecca Cosmetica

Address: I head to either the Double Bay, Paddington or Westfield Bondi Junction stores but there are many locations. Check the store locator here.

Number: 1800 007 844

Why You Should Book In: There are so many reasons to get your makeup done at your local Mecca Cosmetica or Mecca Maxima.

  1. Mecca Cosmetica’s in-store certified makeup artists can master the smokiest of smokey eyes to tricky ombre lips
  2. The no fuss in-and-out service
  3. The large array of luxe makeup brands your makeup artist has the opportunity to apply to your face. Think NARS, Hourglass and even By Terry
  4. The fact that you can redeem the same value of your service back in product. That’s right, if you spend $90 getting your makeup professionally done, you can use $90 in-store-credit to pick out a few new products for your makeup bag. Ah-mazing.

The Clear Skin Clinic Double Bay

Address: B/13 Transvaal Ave, Double Bay

Number: (02) 9327 5033

Why You Should Book In: If you are starting to think glowy bump-free skin is as elusive as a golden unicorn, it’s time you visit Dee Davies (or one of her amazingly talented staff) at The Clear Skin Clinic in Double Bay.

Dee is a professional when it comes to extractions and is well known in Sydney for her ‘steam and squeeze’ facial where your skin is cleansed and exfoliated, placed under a steamer for ten minutes, and then examined under a bright light where a technician will remove each and every white head and black head hiding under the surface of your skin.

What I love about these facials the most is that they actually work! This isn’t your regular spa treatment where relaxing music is played and a cooling gel is slapped onto your skin with no real effect. You will literally leave The Clear Skin Clinic with all of your bumps removed professionally without any nasty scarring.

I’m not the only one who loves Dee’s treatments, celebrity fans include Rachael Finch and Jessica Rowe.

Lulu Belle Skin Body Nails

Address: 9 Plumer Rd, Rose Bay

Number: (02) 9328 5533

Why You Should Book In: Lulu Belle is a friendly beauty salon in the heart of Sydney’s Rose Bay which I often frequent to get my eyebrows shaped and for a pre-event spray tan.

I love the quick service, the choice of three different fake tan brands including Sun Fx, St Tropez & Techno Tan and the professional application. I’ve never left with a single streak! This is probably due to Lulu Belle’s owner Lisa offering amazing pre-application advice and recommending the best formulation and colouring to compliment my skin.
